Photobleaching of different fluorophores has been reviewed for use in a number of applications including quantitative microscopy and fluorescence photobleaching recovery (FPR). Dailey, et. al. reviewed studies of photobleaching in different systems, as well as different methods employed to reduce photobleaching.

While 6-FAM is less susceptible to photobleaching than FITC, newer dyes have been developed that are more stable. For example, Panchuk-Voloshina, et al. demonstrated the stability of Alexa Dyes over FAM and FITC.
